Course Information		EDI LEVEL 3 AWARD IN PREPARING TO TEACH IN THE LIFELONG LEARNING SECTOR (QCA Accreditation Number –: 500/1522/9) Rationale This qualification satisfies the government requirement for teachers, tutors and trainers to hold an award for preparing to teach in the lifelong learning sector. It can be undertaken by those who need an initial award for their role as a teacher or trainer in the lifelong learning sector or by those who want to teach in an FE College, tutor in an Adult and Community Learning Centre or be a trainer for a Learning Provider. Learners will gain knowledge and understanding of the teacher’s role and approaches to teachingand learning, plan learning sessions and manage learning. The achievement of the Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector will confirm that they have shown that they have a good understanding of the essential aspects of the teacher/trainer role, can organise and manage effective learning and have developed professionally through on-going reflection and evaluation. Aim This award is for those who are or who want to be a teacher, tutor or trainer and need to be able to plan, prepare and implement learning for a specialist area Objectives On completion of the one mandatory unit, learners will have demonstrated that they are able to: Understand the teacher’s role and legislative requirements Understand appropriate teaching and learning approaches Demonstrate session planning skills Deliver and evaluate learning Understand the use of assessment methods and reasons for keeping records of assessment Opportunities for Progression On completion of this qualification those enabling learning could: Add further units in order to gain the Level 3 or Level 4 Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, for the associate teacher role Work towards the Level 5 or Level 6 Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector, for the full teaching role Once they have gained the Level 5 or Level 6 Diploma, undertake continuing professional development in order to be awarded Qualified Teacher Learning and Skillsstatus (QTLS) Entry Requirements Centres need to ensure that: They give all applicants guidance and advice on suitable routes into teaching All entrants have the personal and intellectual qualities to acquire the knowledge,understanding and skills needed to gain this award All entrants are able to read effectively, and are able to communicate clearly and accurately in spoken and written standard English Systems are in place to seek information on whether entrants have a criminal background which might prevent them working with young people or vulnerable adults, as a teacher, trainer or tutor Entrants normally hold relevant vocational and/or academic qualifications at least one level above those of their learners As part of the training, all candidates have taken part in a group or individual interview
