Course Information

 

Overview

To qualify for an SIA Manned Guarding Licence to you will need to satisfy four requirements:

1) Be over 18.

2) Pass an identity check.

3) Pass a criminal records check conducted by the SIA.

4) Possess a recognised door supervisor qualification.


Two Types of Licence

There are two types of SIA licence:

  • A front line licence is required if undertaking licensable activity, other than key holding activities (this also covers undertaking non-front line activity). A front line licence is in the form of a credit card-sized plastic card that must be worn, subject to the licence conditions.

  • A non-front line licence is required for those who manage, supervise and/or employ individuals who engage in licensable activity, as long as front line activity is not carried out - this includes directors or partners. A non-front line licence is issued in the form of a letter that also covers key holding activities.


What does the qualification cover?

Training is delivered in two parts as follows:

Unit 1 - Knowledge based training and assessment (21 hours)

Unit 2 - Practical scenario based training and assessment (7 hours)

 

Unit 1 - Knowledge Based Training & Assessment

  • This section of the course covers the following topics:

  • Role and responsibilities of security officers

  • Customer Care & Social skills

  • Health & Safety

  • Fire Safety

  • Dealing with Incidents & Emergencies

  • The Law (Civil & Criminal)

  • Arrest

  • Patrolling

  • Searching

  • Procedures for the control of keys and equipment

  • Radio Procedures

  • Assignment instructions

  • Reporting


Unit 2 - Practical, Scenario based, Training & Assessment

This section of the course covers the following topics:

  • Assessment and reduction of the risk of violence in the workplace

  • The Law

  • Identification of behaviour that indicates escalation towards violence

  • Appropriate measures to avoid, calm or defuse the situation

  • Post incident considerations and learning from conflict

  • Return to training index

  • Security Operations
