BIIAB Licensed Trade
Access Training and Consultancy Limited (ACT), delivers a portfolio of courses accredited under the British Institute of Innkeepers Awarding Body (BIIAB). These courses are aimed at employees working within the licensed retail premises. In line with the ethos of continuous professional development, ACT offers a range of courses allowing candidates to operate as general bar staff, Personal Licence Holders and Designated Premises Supervisors through the following courses:

- BIIAB Certifiacate in Alcohol Awareness
These BIIAB courses are delivered monthly at our training centres in Swansea, Cardiff, Carmarthen, Maesteg and Bridgend.
BIIAB Award in Responsible Alcohol Retailing
This qualification provides essential knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities of alcohol retailers authorised by a personal license holder to sell alcohol. It will enable those who complete the qualification to act within the law to support the designated premises supervisor to retail alcohol responsibly on their licensed premises. The BIIAB Level 1 ARAR provides additional protection to licensed premises operators and candidates alike as it contains 3 mandatory questions that ensure every candidate fully understands the legislation concerning underage sales, serving persons who are drunk and the licensing objectives.
Certificate in Alcohol Awareness
The BIIAB CAA was developed in response to the Government initiative to raise awareness of alcohol issues with children and young adults, and is a key part of the ground-breaking ‘BII Schools Project’. The ‘BII Schools Project’ is a three-pronged initiative which includes a special website (www.schoolsproject.co.uk), quiz sheets, and the BIIAB CAA. The BIIAB CAA meets the growing need for alcohol education in the National Curriculum, as well as giving those who successfully pass the examination a nationally recognised Level 1 qualification Certificate. The Certificate covers key subject areas including: What alcohol is and what it does The effects and dangers of alcohol Alcohol and the law Being responsible How the licensed trade contributes to the local and national economy.
BIIAB Award for Personal Licence Holders
BIIAB Award for Personal Licence Holders, has been specifically designed to meet the statutory requirements of the Licensing Act 2003. The Act states that anyone authorising the retail sale of alcohol will have to hold a personal licence, and that in order to qualify for a personal licence, an applicant must hold a relevant licensing qualification. The APLH covers the syllabus set by Government to enable candidates to understand the law in relation to: the roles, responsibilities and functions of licensing authorities within the framework of the licensing objectives the application process for a personal licence the role and legal responsibilities of the personal licence holder, and the penalties relating to failure to comply with the law the premises licence the content and purpose of operating schedules the role and duties of the designated premises supervisor (DPS) unauthorised licensable activities permitted temporary licensable activities rights of entry to licensed premises police powers with regard to suspension and closure of licensed premises the specific prohibitions for the sale of alcohol the strengths of alcoholic drinks, and the effects of alcohol on the human body the protection of children from harm the responsible retail sale of alcohol
BIIAB Award for Designated Premises Supervisor
The BIIAB Award for Designated Premises Supervisors is designed for those responsible for the day-to-day management of licensed premises and who, in line with the Licensing Act 2003, provides the single point of accountability for those premises.
BIIAB Certificate for Licensing Practitioners
What is the BIIAB Level 2 NCLP ? The BIIAB Level 2 NCLP is a qualification that ensures that those involved in the review and approval of personal and premises licences are aware of their roles and responsibilities under the new Licensing Act 2003, and the associated guidance and regulations. Who is this qualification for? It is designed for local authority licensing officers, and other staff, such as police officers, fire officers and environmental health officers, involved in the administration of the Licensing Act 2003. What does the qualification cover? The BIIAB Level 2 NCLP gives a broad introduction to the process of licensing including: The duties of a licensing authority Applications and determination of a licence being granted Hearing and appeal processes and procedures The duties of applicants The powers and rights of the relevant authorities to inspect licensed premises Sanctions.
National Certificate for Drugs Awareness
The BIIABNational Certificate for Licensees (Drugs Awareness), provides licensed retailers and managers of all types of licensed premises, from the small country pub to the inner city club venue, with an awareness of the illegal drugs scene.
BIIAB Award in Conflict Management
Incidents of workplace violence can range from the relatively minor problems of people causing nuisance in a premises, for example through unacceptable levels of swearing, to serious incidents involving physical abuse and damage to property. The BIIAB Award in Conflict Management helps staff, whose work involves the provision of services to the public, to avoid and manage conflict within their work environment.
Managing the Night-Time Economy
This new and exciting qualification is a direct result of research undertaken by the Civic Trust, which identified a National need for motivation and training for policy makers and practitioners in developing and managing the nighttime economy. The research has also culminated in the Purple Flag Accreditation Scheme, now run by the Association of Town Centre Managers, and this trail-blazing qualification will greatly benefit applicants for the scheme. The qualification is relevant to anyone working in these areas: -Regulation and enforcement: police, licensing officers, environmental health officers, crime and disorder partnership managers. -Design and development: shopping centre managers, developers, design professionals. -Economic growth and diversity: economic development officers, tourism development officers -Place management: town centre managers, night-time economy managers, BID team managers -Policy-making: councilors and other officials

Award in Assessment of Licensed Premises(Social Responsibility)
A 3-unit qualification for prospective assessors of recognised award schemes such as Best Bar None or other recognised award schemes ● The AALP(SR) promotes best practice and consistency of assessment approach The BIIAB AALP(SR) covers three key subject areas: -Principles of Assessment -Legislative Requirements of Licensed Premises -Assessing Recognised Award Schemes The BIIAB AALP(SR) is designed for prospective recognised award scheme assessors for example from: -Police forces. -Local authorities. -Trading standards offices. -The fire service. The BIIAB AALP(SR) is assessed by two multiple-choice question examinations, and has been designed to be delivered over two days. Approved centres set their own costs for training, so please confirm the course costs with your chosen training provider.
